Supreme Early Morning Photography Tour

Join our ‘Supreme Early Morning Wildlife Photography Tour’, continuing a tradition established many years ago by our business founder, naturalist Dr Jonathan Wills.  Jonathan pioneered Shetland’s first dedicated dawn wildlife photography trips under the name “Dawn Patrol”, taking photographers out at dawn to capture the remarkable wildlife and morning light around Bressay and Noss.

Today, our tour departs at 7am – a carefully chosen time that offers beautiful early-morning light and excellent wildlife photography opportunities, whilst providing a more practical and enjoyable start for visitors on holiday.  With Shetland’s long summer days and remarkably early daylight, there is still ample opportunity to capture the special atmosphere of morning around Bressay and Noss.

Welcoming amateur and professional photographers alike, the tour follows the same extensive route as our daily wildlife tours, offering excellent value and photography opportunities throughout.  We spend quality time at the spectacular cliffs of Noss, as well as visiting other wildlife, scenic, historical and geological highlights around Bressay and Noss.

Our spacious stable catamaran features an extremely large open viewing platform, providing plenty of room for up to 12 passengers to move around freely and find their preferred lighting angle, background and framing.  Uninterrupted panoramic views, outdoor seating, a heated cabin, toilet and dry storage for camera equipment all help make the experience comfortable and enjoyable.

Hot drinks and biscuits are included – a welcome treat during an early morning tour.  Please let us know about any dietary requirements when booking online, by adding a note in the ‘Special Requirements’ section or if booking with us directly or another provider, just state your requirements and we will happily accommodate – thank you.

TOUR START TIME & HOW TO BOOK:
Weather permitting, this tour operates twice weekly on selected days, usually Tuesdays and Fridays, with a 7am start.  Days may occasionally vary, so please selecte ‘Book Now’ to view the current availability on our online booking calendar.

Once you have selected your preferred date, you can book through our easy-to-use online booking system or contact us directly.  Online bookings receive a full confirmation together with our terms and conditions.  If you do not receive your confirmation, please contact us so we can investigate.

Please arrive promptly for the advertised start time.  Following our warm welcome and important safety briefing, we aim to depart without delay.

We recommend booking the tour early in your stay rather than leaving it until your final days in Shetland, as all trips are weather dependent and may occasionally need to be rescheduled.

TOUR DURATION:
The early morning tour is Up To 2.5hrs We spend good quality time at the cliffs of Noss and other wildlife & scenic hotspots, providing plenty of opportunities for viewing and photography.

The tour usually takes place on Tuesdays & Fridays but this can be subject to change as mentioned above. 

TOUR FINISH TIME: Our tours generally last up to 2.5 hours.  As wildlife encounters are unpredictable, we may occasionally return a few minutes later than planned.  If you must return by a particular time to catch a ferry, flight or bus, please tell us before departure and we will ensure that we return on schedule.
