Your
skipper and guide, Dr Jonathan Wills has been birdwatching and boating around
the shores of Shetland since childhood holidays. He's an honorary warden of Noss
National Nature Reserve for Scottish Natural Heritage, a former boatman to the
Muckle Flugga Lighthouse, and wrote his Ph.D. on the historical geography of
Shetland.
Jonathan was inspired to take up wildlife guiding by the late Bobby
Tulloch, who taught him much of what he knows about seabirds, seals and
otters - and how to get close to them without causing undue disturbance.
In the winter and when the weather's bad he works from home in Bressay as a
writer and environmental consultant - as well as fishing for the pot around Noss
and Bressay. He's also the author of several
children's books.
Engineer and
First Mate Alan Longmuir has known Jonathan since their
schooldays in Lerwick when they started messing about in boats in Bressay Sound.
Born in Lerwick, he spent many years in the offshore oil industry before coming
'ashore' to join 'Dunter III'.
A keen amateur jazz musician and stalwart of the
Shetland Folk Festival, he also runs the Veesik recording company which
specialises in traditional Shetland music and storytelling - you can hear his
CDs on board.
